2 1/3 cups sugar
2/3 cup shortening
4 eggs, beaten
1 - 1 lb. can pumpkin
2/3 cup water
3 1/3 cup sifted flour
1/2 tea. baking powder
2. tea. soda
2 tea. salt
1 tea. cinnamon
1/2 tea. cloves
2/3 cup chopped walnuts
2/3 cup cut-up dates

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and shortening until light and fluffy. Stir in eggs, pumpkin and water. Sift together flour, baking powder, soda, salt and spices. Gradually stir dry ingredients into pumpkin mixture. Add nuts and dates, blend well. Turn batter into two greased 9 x 5 x 3-inch pans. Bake at 350º for about 1 hour and 15 minutes or until done.
