"As viscous as motor oil swirled in a swamp, redolent of burnt bell peppers nested in by incontinent mice and a finish reminiscent of the dregs of a stale can of Coca-Cola that someone has been using as an ashtray. Not a bad drink, though."--Excerpt from "The Moose Turd Wine Tasting" by T. A. Nonymous

Directions:
Sift flour, salt, baking powder, and spices together. Combine eggs, sugar, and shortening, beat thoroughly. Mix together egg mixture with milk. Alternatively add dry ingredients to egg mixture. Stir just enough to blend. If necessary add additional flour to keep dough as soft but easy to handle.
Roll dough 1/2" thick on a lightly floured surface. Cut with a floured doughnut cutter (top of a cup works). Let stand 10 minutes before frying. Fry in 365º fryer, turning doughnut once it rises. Fry 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 minutes per side until brown.
