2 c. flour
1 1/2 c. sugar
3/4 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 egg, beaten
1 t. salt
1 t. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
1 t. vanilla or rum (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Mix together flour, sugars, butter and nuts and pat 1 1/2 c. of mixture in bottom of 9x13 pan. Keep 1/2 c. for the top. Add to the remaining mixture, egg, salt, soda and buttermilk. Mix. Spread over crust and sprinkle 1/2 c. over top. Bake at 350 degrees 30-35 minutes until golden brown. If desired, add vanilla or rum to batter.
