1 cup sugar, 2 tbsp shortening, 2 eggs, 1 cup molasses, 1 cup milk (sweet or sour), 4 cups flour, 2 tsp baking soda, 1 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp each nutmeg, cloves and all spice, 1/4 tsp ginger, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1 cup raisins

Cream shortening and sugar. Add beaten eggs, then molasses and milk. sift dry ingredients together add raisins and gradually add to first mixture. Drop from teaspoon on greased pan and bake in a slow oven 325 to 350 for 10 to 12 minutes.
