2 c. raisins
1 c chopped dates
1 c.chopped peeled apples
1 scant c. water
1 c. shortening
4 eggs, beaten
2 T. water
2 T. vanilla
2 c. flour
1 1/2 c. Splenda©
2 tsp. soda
2 rounded tsp. cinnamon
1 1/3 c. nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Boil raisins, dates, and apples in 1 scant cup water for 3 minutes. Add shortening to hot fruit and stir until melted. Cool and add beaten eggs, water, and vanilla. Sift flour, soda, cinnamon, and Splenda© and add to mixture. Mix well. Add nuts and stir well. Put in a covered bowl and chill dough overnight in refrigerator. Drop by teaspoonfuls on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350ºF for 10-12 minutes. Cool on rack. Store in covered container.

The original recipe called for liquid sweetener but I substituted Splenda© and added 2 tbsp. water. We like black walnuts in these cookies but pecans or English walnuts are good, too.
