1 tbsp sugar, 1 tbsp cornstarch, 1 tbsp soy sauce, 1 can French style green beans, drained - reserve 1/2 liquid, 1 tbsp instant minced onion, 1 tbsp vinegar, 5 ounce water chestnuts, drained and sliced thinly, 1/4 tsp salt, 1/8 tsp pepper, 2 tbsp butter

In heavy 2 quart saucepan, blend sugar and cornstarch. Add soy sauce, bean liquid and onion. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until mixture is thick and clear, about 2 minutes. Gently stir in green beans, vinegar, water chestnuts, seasonings and butter. Cover. Reduce heat and continue cooking until just heated through. about three to five minutes.
