1 c. packed light brown sugar
3/4 c. shortening or butter
1 egg
1/4 c. molasses
2 1/4 c. all-purpose flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. salt

Directions:

Mix first four dry ingredients together.
Stir remaining ingredients together separately.
Then mix the dry and shortening mixtures and refrigerate 2 hours, or overnight.

Lightly grease cookie sheet.

Roll about a teaspoon of dough into a walnut sized ball. Dip the top into granulated sugar and roll around to cover top half.

Place 2" apart, sugar side up. Bake at 375º for 10-12 minutes; done when just set. Cool on wire rack.
