Directions:
Dissolve 1 package dry yeast in 1/4 cup warm water. Mix together 2 1/2 cups flour, 1/2 tsp baking soda, 1 tsp salt and 1/8 cup sugar. Cut 1/2 cup shortening into dry ingredients as you normally do for biscuits or pie dough. Stir in 1 cup buttermilk and the water-yeast mixture. Blend thoroughly and the dough is ready to be refrigerated is a large covered bowl or made into biscuits. Roll out dough, knead slightly and cut into biscuits. Place in a greased pan, let rise slightly and bake at 400 F until lightly browned.
