1 cup white sugar
3 eggs
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup milk
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon salt
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs and beat thoroughly. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk and vanilla. Chill. Roll out on board 1/4-inch in thickness. Dip doughnut cutter in flour before each cut. Heat oil in pan until a doughnut hole bubbles when you drop it in oil. Be careful. Oil can catch fire it it gets too hot.Serves 24.
