Place unwashed cucumbers in stone jar and cover with 1 pint salt to 1 gallon water and let stand one week. Drain and cover with boiling water and 1 Tbsp alum and let stand 24 hours. Drain and cover with boiling water and let stand another 24 hours. Drain and cover with 5 pints vinegar, 1/2 ounce celery seed, 1/2 ounce stick cinnamon and 6 C sugar. Drain and reheat syrup for 3 mornings adding 1 C sugar each morning. Drain and heat syrup without pickles and pour hot syrup over pickles packed in jars. You can add green food coloring if you want. Seal.
