2 medium oranges
1 1/2 cups white sugar
1/3 cup milk plus 2 tablespoons
1 egg, beaten
2 cups sifted flour
1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
1/8 teaspoon salt

Directions:
Directions:
Remove rind and white membrane from oranges and chop into very small slivers. Cover with water, bring to boiling point. Drain off water. Add 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water to rind in saucepan. Bring to boiling point, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered 10 minutes. Thoroughly drain rind. Reserve 1/3 cup syrup. Mix together 1 cup sugar, reserved syrup, milk, egg, and cooked rind. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Add dry ingredients to orange mixture. Stir just until moistened. Bake in oven 375 degrees about one hour or until tests done. Use a greased 9x5-inch bread pan. Let stand 24 hours before cutting..
