"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

Personal Notes:
Also called "Ruthy's Hair Cookies". Apparently I always liked cooking and had to help Elaine make Christmas cookies. Leaning over the bowl my hair got caught in the beaters. Elaine panicked and ran with me the mixer&beaters stuck to my head out in the yard and got Tim's help. Tim actually popped the beaters out of the machine (Elaine didn't think of that) then they threw me in the tub to soak the beaters out of my hair. It must have worked, I don't remember getting my hair cut. Come to think of it I don't remember having those cookies until year later.

I still have mom's old mennonite cookbook and page 72 has Ruthy's Hair Cookies written on the top of the page.
