Directions:
Heat oven to 375º. Mix in large bowl 1/2 cake mix and remaining ingredients. Beat with a spoon or electric mixer till smooth. Blend in remaining cake mix and mix thoroughly (you may have to use your hands). Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls (should be the size of walnuts) about 3 inches apart on ungreased baking sheet. With a fork dipped in flour, flatten rounds of dough by pressing a crisscross design on top of each cookie. Bake 8-10 min. till light golden brown. Cool 2 min. and remove. **For peanut butter and jelly cookies, don't flatten with fork, instead make a shallow hole in the center with the tip of a teaspoon dipped in flour. After baking, place about 1/2 teaspoon of your favorite jelly in each hole.**

Personal Notes:
I bought my first book "Betty Crocker's New Boys and Girls Cookbook" dtd. 1965 at a book fair when I was just 7 years old. When learning to bake these were so easy to make and we loved them. Of course, I have not made them in over 40 years!
