German Chocolate Cake Recipe

1 (4 oz) Bakers German Sweet chocolate ( in a box)
1/2 c water
2 c plain flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
1 c ( 2 sticks) butter, softened
2 c sugar
4 eggs separated ( put egg whites in another bowl for later)
1 tsp vanilla
1 c buttermilk

Directions:
Line the bottom of 3 (9 inch) round cake pans with wax paper. Grease the sides of each pan.
Microwave
Chocolate and water in large bowl on high for 1-2 min. until the chocolate is almost melted, stir every 30 sec until completely melted
Mix
Flour, baking soda and salt, set aside. Bet butter and sugar in a large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add egg yolks, 1 at a time and beat well after each. Stir in Chocolate mixture and vanilla. Add flour mixture alternately with buttermilkl. beating until well blended.
Beat
egg whites ina another large bowl with electric mixer on hish speed until stiff peaks form. Gently stir into batter and pour into pans. Drop pans onto counter top to release air bubbles in the batter
Bake at 350º for 30 min. Cool for 15 min then remove cakes from pans. Remove wax paper. Cool completely then add Icing on top and between layers.

I make this every year for Daddy's birthday. You can find this recipe in the green box the chocolate comes in. It is alot of work but this is so worth it.
