1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. molasses
1 egg
1/2 c. buttermilk
1 3/4 c. flour
1 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon soda
1/2 baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt

LEMON SAUCE:
1/2 c. sugar
2 tbsp. cornstarch
1 1/3 c. water
2 tsp. grated lemon peel
2 tbsp. lemon juice
3 tbsp. butter

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter sugar add eggs beat well. Add molasses and milk and dry ingredients alternating.
Pour into pan. Bake until cake tested in center comes out clean. Cool on wire rack. Serve warm with lemon sauce.

LEMON SAUCE:
In 2 quart saucepan, combine sugar and cornstarch. Gradually stir in water until smooth. Stirring constantly, bring to a boil over medium heat and boil one minute. Remove from heat. Stir in butter, lemon peel, and lemon juice until well blended. Pour in serving bowl and cover. Cool slightly. Serve warm over gingerbread.
