Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 c butter
1 c half and half
4 large eggs
2 c white sugar
2 tsp vanilla
3 c flour
1 tsp salt
2 tsp baking powder
---
1 c butter
1 c brown sugar
2/3 c milk
4 1/2 c powdered sugar
2 tsp vanilla
1/2 c chopped nuts, optional

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. Spray 9 X 13 pan with non-stick cooking spray. In a small saucepan over low heat, combine butter and half & half. Heat until butter is melted and mixture is warmed through. In a medium sized mixing bowl, beat eggs until light yellow. Add sugar and beat until light and fluffy. To eggs and sugar, add warmed butter mixture; beat until thoroughly combined. Add vanilla and mix again. In a separate bowl, add the dry ingredients together; blend. Add flour mixture to the other combined ingredients. Blend well. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean and cake springs back when touched in the center. Cool.
Frosting:
Melt butter over low heat in a small saucepan. Add brown sugar and boil over low heat for 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Add milk and bring to a boil. Cool to lukewarm. Put powdered sugar in a medium bowl. Add butter mixture and vanilla. Beat with an electric mixer until smooth.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Anybody else remember that this was one of Grandma Hansen's Sunday cakes? I've looked for the recipe for awhile, and suddenly there's a plethora of them available. This cake recipe sounds the closest to hers. The frosting was a from a separate recipe and I doubled it, like I had the cake. You might not need that much frosting unless you are making a layer cake.
