Basic Sugar Cookie Dough Recipe

2 1/2 c all purpose flour
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp kosher salt
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temperature
3/4 c sugar
1 large egg
1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions:
Directions:
:In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt; set aside.
:Using an electric mixer, beat the butter and sugar until smooth. Add the egg and beat until fluffy, about 2 minutes. Beat in the vanilla.
:with the mixer on low, gradually the flour mixture, mixing until just incorporated (the dough will be stiff), Shape the dough into a disk and refrigerate, wrapped, for at least an hour up to 3 days.
:Roll out the dough on a flat surface, use cookie cutter to shape. Bake at 375º on a parchment lined cookie sheet, cook 12-15 minutes. Decorate with colored sugar and/or icing.
