3/4 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg, beaten
4 tsp. molasses
2 c. flour
2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening & sugar. Stir in egg & molasses. Mix baking soda & spices with flour & add to the creamed mixture. Roll into 1" balls and then in sugar. Place on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake in 350º for 10-12 minutes.

I got this recipe when I went to a Watkin's party in the 1970's. It was a Watkin's recipe. It used all Watkin's spices. They are soft and chewy. They've been my favorite ginger cookie since I first tasted them.
