1/2 cube butter (or margarine)
2 to 2 1/2 c. Crisco shortening
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. vanilla
4 c. powdered sugar
1/3 c. evaporated milk

Beat together the first 4 ingredients; Add 4 cups of powdered sugar a little at a time. Alternate sugar with about 1/3 c. evaporated milk.

Dear Anne, This is going to be a very quick note. If you liked the icing I made for Gail's cake, here are the amounts I used for each batch....
I think I made 6 batches for the wedding cake. Also, just before spreading the icing on the cake, since it's a large amount, I put part of it at a time in a bowl & stir it smooth with a spoon. Its easier to work with smaller amounts & to whip it smooth just before putting in tube or spreading. Does that all make sense.
