2 c. sugar
1/2 c. Crisco oil
2 eggs
1/2 c. cocoa
1 c. hot water
4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and coil. Add eggs and cream again. Mix cocoa in hot water, then add to mixture. Sift together flour, salt, baking soda, baking powder and add to mixture, alternating with buttermilk. Bake at 375 to 400 degrees for 10 minutes. After cake has cooked, place wax paper on table. Remove cake from pan and with water glass, cut your cake in round forms. When icing is finished, place icing inside gob cakes.
GOBS MYSTERY ICING
16 T. flour, 4 c. milk, 4 sticks soft butter, 2 c. Crisco solid, 3 c. confectioners sugar, 1 c. granulated sugar, 2 tsp salt, 1 tsp. vanilla
Mix all ingredients above together in mixing bowl until blended together smoothly. Place icing in between small gob cakes.

Shirley Coley was born in Rhodell, WV.. Her father was a coal miner, and her mother was a homemaker. She has an older brother and sister. She was raised in a coal mining camp during the depression for years along with her family. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in Beckley, WV..She later married Bill Whittington, and they have a daughter, Lou Ann Mollish and two grandchildren, Steven and Tayler Ann Mollish of Elizabethton. Shirley worked in manufacturing for 13 years in FL, and raised her daughter on her own. She later remarried to Wendall Coley, and they eventually became Christians and members of Oak Street. She had a deep faith in the Lord; she was a prayer warrior, and enjoyed the fellowship with the Sunday School Class members. Shirley was also a member of the WMU and she never missed the opportunity to witness with her friends and family when the opportunity became available.
