1 c. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. packed brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. cream of tartar

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together shortening, sugars and egg until light and fluffy. Beat in vanilla and dry ingredients.
Chill for several hours or overnight.
Roll into balls and then roll in sugar.
Bake for 10 to 12 minutes at 375º.
Cool for 1 minute and move to cooling rack.
