2 c. chopped dates
1 c. water
1/2 c. brown sugar
Pinch salt

Mix together in saucepan and bring to boil. Simmer for 10 mins. or until soft. Blend together to make a thick mixture. Cool. This is enough for a batch of cookies.

Nana used this in Allan's cookies that she sent to him while he was in Vietnam so the cookies would arrive whole instead of in pieces. Other guys would get just crumbs. They all eyed his cookies when they arrived!
