4 c. raisins
1 qt. water
1/2 c. butter
2 c. sugar
1/2 c. applesauce
1 egg, beaten
1/2 tsp. salt
3 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
4 T. cocoa
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
5 c. flour

Directions:
Directions:
Boil raisins in water for 20 minutes then add butter and sugar while hot. Cool, then add applesauce and egg. In separate bowl the dry ingredients then add to applesauce mix. Pour into cake pan or 3 greased loaf pans. Bake at 325º for 30 minutes, then turn down heat to 275º and bake until done.

Dorothy K. Reynolds writes, "Aunt Vera gave this recipe to us. Whenever I would go to Manti to visit she always had this one the breakfast table to have a warm drink with. They had extremely large breakfasts. It was their largest meal of the day."
