1 c. sugar-burned
1/2 c. boiling water

1 1/2 c sugar
2/3 c butter
2 egg yolks
1 c cold water
3 c flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 scant tsp baking soda
2 beaten egg whites

1 c sugar
1/2 milk
1/2 butter

Directions:
Directions:
Start with 1 c burned sugar. Add 1/2 c boiling water. stir until melted. Let cool.

Cream sugar with butter, egg yolks, and cold water. Mix well. Add burned sugar syrup, leaving 2 T in skillet for filling. Sift in 3 c flour, baking powder and soda. Last fold in beaten egg whites. Bake.

Filling:
Add sugar, milk, and butter to skillet with syrup. Cook until soft ball forms in cool water. Take off burner and put in 1 c cut pecans. Put on cake while a little warm.
