CREAM TOGETHER:
1 c. butter
1 c. white sugar or 2 c. brown sugar

ADD:
3 eggs, beaten till light and fluffy

SIFT TOGETHER AND STIR IN:
4 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1tsp. salt

MIX AND CHILL. Divide roll out 1/4 " thick and spread with the following mixture:
1 lb chopped dates
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. water
Cook over low heat until thick about 10 min.
Cool and add:
1 c. nuts, chopped

Roll into Jelly-roll fashion. Chill overnight, Slice 1/4" thick and bake on 400º for 10-12 min.

This was my grandmother, Ethel Spradling's recipe. My Mother Mary E. Kohler, Me & my oldest daughter,Jill Smith, make these at Christmas time. This is also Aaron Wiggins favorite Christmas cookie :P
