Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 qt. milk (4 cups)
1 c. sugar
1 c. shortening (she would use Crisco)
2 qt. flour (8 cups)
2 cakes yeast (packages)
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
2 eggs beaten

Directions:
Directions:
Mix milk, sugar and shortening in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and let cool to luke warm. (When you can stick your finger in without burning it). Add yeast, 1 qt. flour, and 2 eggs and mix well. Let raise till about double in size. Then add remaining flour, salt, and soda.
Take out of pan and knead well on a flour board. Put into large bowl and put into the refrigerator, covering with a buttered wax paper and then foil. Punch down when needed. Keep in refrigerator at least over night. Longer is okay (my mom would say up to 2 wks but....?). Take out of refrigerator and bowl and rest on board covered for about 1 hour. Then knead dough well and then shape into rolls or any other shape you desire. Put into baking pan and let rise for about 2 hours before baking. When shaping the rolls your hands should be buttered and then lightly pat tops with your buttered hands.

Bake in a 425º oven for 20 mins.

Personal Notes:
Of course we do not have "Ice Boxes" anymore but that is what my mom called them. These rolls were my moms famous rolls. Whenever we got together with my family, Hallquist and Reid families she was always asked to bring these rolls. You need to make a lot because they will all go fast!!!
