1 c. shortening (I use butter), 2 eggs, 2 tsp. cream of tartar, 1 tsp. soda, 4 tsp. sugar, 1 1/2 c. sugar, 2 3/4 c. all-purpose flour, 1/2 tsp. salt, 1 tsp. vanilla, 4 tsp. ground cinnamon

Preheat oven to 400 º. Cream shortening, eggs and 1/1/2 C. sugar until light and fluffy. Combine flour, cream of tartar, salt and soda; stir into creamed mixture. Stir in vanilla. Shape the dough into balls the size of walnuts. Combine remaining sugar and cinnamon, mixing well; roll each ball in mixture. Place on a greased cookie sheet; flatten cookies slightly. Bake for 8 minutes or until the first cookies begin to fall.

These freeze well. I use a small ice cream scoop to form the balls, this gives uniformity.
