1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 c. granulated sugar
1/3 c. sweet milk
1 Tbsp. spry ( Ed. note: This is probably the same as Crisco.
2 Tbsp. butter
1 Tbsp. corn syrup
1/4 tsp. Salt
1 tsp. Vanilla (add after ingredients have been cooked)

Directions:
Directions:
Place all ingredients except vanilla in sauce pan and bring slowly to a rolling boil, stirring constantly. Boil briskly 1 minute. Cool to lukewarm. Add vanilla. Beat until thick enough to spread. Do not cook but the 1 minute. (She says not to use too much butter or spry, as it tends to get greasy after it sets a day)

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Editor's Note: Jean says in her handwriting, "you can't beat this one." This recipe was found in Kate Lockhart Blaine's cookbook collection, too; however, she had changed it in her handwriting to: 1/2 stick of butter or margarine, instead of the Spry and Butter in the above recipe. And, it was called "Jean's Caramel Frosting."
