1 stick margarine
1/2 cup oil
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 egg
2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon almond flavor
1/2 teaspoon vanilla flavor
1/2 teaspoon soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar

In 1 1/2 quart mixing bowl, cream butter and sugars. Add egg, beating well. Add oil and beat until light and fluffy. Sift together flour, soda, salt, and cream of tartar. Add to first mixture and blend well. Stir in vanilla and almond flavor. Chill dough. Shape into walnut sized balls and place 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet. Dip buttered glass in sugar and flatten. Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes.

Another variation calls for 1 stick of butter instead of margarine, 1/3 cup cooking oil instead of 1/2, no salt or almond flavor. Bake at 375 degrees.
