1 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp soda
3 cups oatmeal
1 cup nuts or raisins (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Mix shortening and sugars. Blend in eggs and vanilla. Sift flour, salt, and soda; mix in to moist ingredients. Stir in oatmeal and nuts. Drop on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake for 8-10 minutes at 350º.
