2/3 cup sugar
1/2 cup milk
1 egg, slightly beaten
3 -1 oz square unsweetened chocolate
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 eggs
2 cups sifted cake flour
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup milk

Frosting:
3 1 oz. squares unsweetened chocolate
1/3 cup butter
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
In saucepan combine sugar, milk, egg and chocolate. Cook over medium heat, stir constantly until chocolate melts and mixture comes just to a boil. Cool to room temperature. Stir shortening to soften. Gradually add 1 cup sugar and cream until light and fluffy. Add vanilla. Add remaining eggs one at a time, beating well after each. Sift together dry ingredients. Add to creamed mixture alternately with 1 cup milk, beginning and ending with flour and beating after each addition. Blend in chocolate mixture. Bake in 2 paper lined 9-inch round pans at 350º for 25-30 minutes. Cool 10 minutes before removing from pans.
