1/2 cup butter or margarine
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 egg separated
2 cups sifted flour
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg
1 cup chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 350º.
Cream butter and shortning, then add sugar and mix, then vanilla and egg yolk, mix again. Addd flour, cinnamon and nutmeg and mix until well-blended, but do not over-mix.
Pour mixture onto an un-greased 11/15 cookie pan (with sides) and pat out evenly to cover bottom of pan. Lightly whip the egg white with a fork, pour and spread over dolugh. Sprinkle chopped nuts over all and gently press down.
Bake 25 minutes, but check at 20 minutes. Should be light brown. Cut while warm (not hot) and remove from pan when cooled.
