1 cup butter
2 cup sugar
4 eggs
1 cup milk
3 cups Swan's Down Cake Flour (sifted)
3 t baking powder
1 t vanilla

Icing: 3 cup sugar, divided
3/4 cup milk
1 egg, beaten
1/2 cup butter, cut up
pinch of salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and sugar, add eggs, then milk, flour, baking powder and vanilla; beat well. Bake in tube pan at 350 for 1 hour. Sprinkle 1/2 cup sugar in a heavy saucepan; cook, stirring constantly over medium heat until sugar melts and syrup is golden brown. Combine remaining sugar, milk, egg, and salt; stir well. Add butter; stir mixture into caramelized sugar (mixture may lump, but will become smooth with further cooking). Cook until candy thermometer reaches 230 degrees. Cool 5 minutes, then beat with wooden spoon. Spread on cake.
