Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 cup sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 cup water
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped
12 oz pkg Nestle semi sweet chocolate morsels

Directions:
Directions:
Combine sugar, salt and cup water with cup butter in a cast iron skillet. Cook over medium high heat to a light crack stage 285º on a candy thermometer. If you don't have a candy thermometer, when the candy forms a ribbon from the spoon you can test in a small cup with an ice cube and water, just listen for a light crack sound. This does take a while and the candy will change from clear to a deep gold color.

Add chopped walnuts and pour out quickly onto a well buttered cookie sheet (the kind with sides so the candy can't run off the sheet). Set aside to cool.

Melt Nestles semi sweet chocolate morsels and spread half of the chocolate on the top of the cooled toffee. Sprinkle with more chopped nuts and cool. Turn over and spread the remaining chocolate and top off with nuts.

When the chocolate is completely cool, use a kitchen hammer and break the toffee in pieces.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
Recipe given to Marietta on 12-25-1962. We always use an iron skillet because it heats so evenly the Toffee comes out perfectly crunchy and not sticky. Real butter not margarine. Cook only one batch at a time, making a double batch never works.
