Ingredients:
Ingredients:
5 pounds apples such as Golden Delicious, peeled and cored
2 cups sugar
1.5 t cinnamon

Directions:
Directions:
Slice apples and put in crock-pot. Put sugar and cinnamon on top.
Cover and cook on low for 10 hours. Remove cover and cook 2 more hours, stirring occasionally, until thick and brown.
You may need to break up the apples a bit or use an immersion blender to make the mixture smooth.
Time varies according to apples and crock-pot.
Put finished apple butter in small containers and freeze for longer storage.

I put the apple butter in canning jars and seal them with the lids and rims.
Process in a canner to keep for the winter season.
No sure-jell or certo is necessary, the apple's have enough natural pectin to make it thick enough when it is cooking in the crock pot.

I like to use an apple that is not as sweet as the Golden Delicious, I like to use an apple that has a tart flavor.
