2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
1/2 cup butter or margarine (1 stick)
1/2 can solid-pack pumpkin
1/4 cup buttermilk

Preheat oven to 350º.

In a medium bowl, combine flour, baking powder and soda, salt, pumpkin pie spice and sugar. Cut in butter with a fork. Add pumpkin and buttermilk. Mix with hands until dough forms. Place on floured surface and knead for a minute.

Pat dough into an 8- to 10-inch circle. Cut into 8 wedges. Place on cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.

I found this one in the newspaper, too. It was an immediate hit with my crew and is a must for Thanksgiving, now. I usually divide the dough in half, pat it into 2 smaller circles and make 16 smaller scones. (We end up with fewer half-eaten scones this way!) I also usually double the recipe - I mean, really, what are you going to do with 1/2 a can of pumpkin? So I end up with 32 smaller scones - but they don't last long!
