Directions:
Add sugars to beaten eggs and butter. Add cinnamon, cloves, dates, raisins, water with dissolved soda and lastly the flour and nuts.

Drop batter from spoon onto ungreased cookie sheets and place on top shelf of oven. Bake at 325 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes. Watch closely because the raisins tend to burn. These cookies need not be frozen to keep; they will be very good for six months.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
This recipe was given to us by Fay Venable who acquired the recipe from her neighbor Sara, who had been one of the orphan children shipped to Texas on the Orphan Train. She was chosen by a German family in Schulenberg, the German settlement in Texas, at that time. Sara would never give Fay the recipe but one day Sara was too sick to bake them for her church and she asked Fay to bake.
