2 c. rolled oats
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. sugar
1 c. all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 c. hot water
1/2 C. shortening, melted and cooled
1 tsp. vanilla extract

Directions:
Directions:
In mixing bowl, combine oats, sugars, flour and salt. Combine soda and water; stir into oat mixture along with shortening and vanilla. Roll into walnut-size balls. Place on greased cookie sheets. Bake at 350º for about 10 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from the oven; allow to stand 2 minutes before removing to wire rack to cool.
