Elizabeth's Cinnamon Rolls Recipe

2 c. boiling water
1/2 c. sugar
1 stick margarine
2 pkg. dry yeast
1 egg, slightly beaten
5 c. four, then 4 to 4 1/2 c. flour

Topping: Mix 3/4 cup sugar and 1+ teaspoon cinnamon

Directions:
In a very large bowl, place hot water. Add sugar and margarine; stir until blended. Mix yeast into cold water, stirring until dissolved. Add to hot water mixture. Add egg; stir in 5 cups flour. Mix well. Gradually add rest of flour, 1 cup at a time. Mixture can be handled, but will be sticky. Cover; refrigerate for 8 hours or overnight.

Next day: Place half of dough on well-floured surface. Roll into rectangle, approximately 3/4 inch high. Spread top with 1/2 stick margarine (softened). Sprinkle half of topping mix over margarine. Roll into jelly roll (long way). Cut into 1/2 inch slices. Place into well-greased muffin tins. Repeat with other half of dough. Let rise till doubled (about 1 hour). Bake in a 350 degree oven for 15 to 20 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove from tins immediately. Serve hot.

This recipe dates back to Elizabeth Walpole. All of her children make it for special dinners. Typically each one's rolls come out differently, but they are always delicious!
