1 large head of cabbage
1 lb. ground beef
1/2 lb. ground pork or veal
6 strips of raw bacon chopped
1/2 stick of butter or margarine
1 c. chopped onion
2 c.cooked white rice
2 eggs
2 T. ketchup
Dash salt, pepper, parsley, nutmeg and Worcestershire sauce
1 T. brown sugar
1 can (16oz.) tomato sauce
1 can (8oz.) tomatoes
1 1/2 c. water

Boil cabbage until leaves are tender. Run leaves under cold water, drain and lay out on paper towels. Brown bacon, remove with slotted spoon. Add 1/2 stick butter to bacon fat and when bubbly, saute onions until golden. Add onion mixture to a large bowl along with all the meat, bacon, cooked rice, eggs, Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, and dry seasonings (except sugar). Mix thoroughly. Lay out leaves and place 2-3 T. of meat mixture on each one, rolling leaves up and over, tucking in the sides. Place rolls (seam side down) into a greased roasting pan. Mix together tomato sauce, tomatoes, water and brown sugar. Pour over all the rolls and cover pan with aluminum foil. Bake 325ºF for 2 hrs. (check midway and add extra water if necessary to prevent drying.)
