2 cups of flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 tbsp sugar
6 tbsp butter
3/4 buttermilk

Directions:
Directions:
Sift the dry ingredients together in a lg bowl. Cut the butter and rub into the dry ingredients with fingertips until the mixture looks like cornmeal. Add most of the buttermilk beating quickly with wooden spoon until a ball is formed adding more buttermilk by the spoonful if needed. Put the dough on a lightly floured surface and pat into a rounded loaf. Put loaf on a buttered baking sheet and bake at 375 deg. for 40 minutes until loaf is well browned. To make an Irish version or spotted dog, simple follow the recipe but toss into the dry ingredients 1/2 cup of black currents or raisins
