1 lb sweet Italian sausage
3/4 lb ground beef
1/2 cup onion chopped

28 oz crushed tomatoes
12 oz tomato paste
13 oz tomato sauce
2 Tablespoons sugar
1 1/2 teaspoon basil
1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
4 Tablespoons chopped fresh parsley-divided

12 lasagna noodles
16 oz ricotta cheese
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 lb medium sliced mozzarella cheese
3/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Directions:
Directions:
In large frying pan, brown sausage and beef. Drain grease. Return meats to pan and add onion and garlic, cooking until onions are soft.

In large pot, add tomato-pepper ingredients and 2 Tablespoons of parsley. Mix together and add to cooked meat mixture. Simmer for 1 1/2 hours stirring occasionally.

Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to boil and cook noodles for 8-10 minutes, drain and rinse with cold water.

In a small bowl, combine ricotta, egg, salt and 2 Tablespoons parsley

Preheat oven 375 degrees. Assemble by layers: Meat sauce, Parmesan cheese, noodles, cheese mixture, Mozzarella slices. Repeat layers. Cover and cook 35 minutes, remove cover and cook an additional 25 minutes. Cool 15 minutes before serving.
