Directions:Preheat oven to 350ºF. Brush bottom of 9x13 in. pan generously with butter and begin layering the first group of phyllo sheets. Each layer of phyllo dough will consist of 5-6 sheets gently brushed with butter. If sheets are too big for the pan, cut them to fit or fold them in at the sides. Evenly place half of the chopped walnuts on top to form the first layer of nuts. Repeat the phyllo layer by laying 5-6 sheets with butter gently brushed in between each. Repeat walnuts. Repeat final layer of phyllo dough, adding the rest of the sheets in the 8 oz. package. Carefully cut into desired shape using fingers to hold pieces steady. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown in color. While baking, prepare sugar syrup by boiling sugar and water together over medium heat until a golden yellow color. Remove from oven and immediately cover with syrup, slowly and carefully pouring over each individual piece. Cool completely before serving. It is best to allow it to sit overnight to allow the sugar to soak into the walnuts. |

Notes: Most Americans are familiar with the honey and pistachios of Greek baklava but Bosnian baklava is made with walnuts and sugar for a completely different flavor.
