2/3 C shortening
2/3 C butter or margarine, softened
1 C sugar
1 C brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
3 C all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda,
1 tsp salt
12 oz semisweet chocolate chips
1 C chopped nuts (optional)

Directions:
Preheat oven to 375º. Mix thoroughly shortening, butter, sugars, eggs and vanilla. Stir in remaining ingredients. (For a softer, rounder cookie, add 1/2 C flour)
Drop dough by rounded teaspoonfuls, 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheet.
ake 8-10 minutes or until light brown. Cool slightly before remmoving from baking sheet.
