4 squares unsweetened baking chocolate (2 oz),
2/3 cup shortening, 2 c sugar, 4 eggs, 1 1/2 c flour,1 tsp baking powder, 1 tsp salt, 1/2 c. chopped walnuts( optional for those who don't like nuts).

Heat oven to 350. Melt chocolate and shortening together in a microwave 1 minute, stir and then 30 seconds more, till melted. Add hot mixture to bowl with eggs and sugar and stir. Add flour, salt and baking powder and mix till dry ingredients are worked in but not more. Add nuts and pour into 9x13 inch greased pan. Bake for 30-35 minutes until toothpick is clean.

If you have your flour, salt and baking powder separate and ready to add to moist mixture and keep the stirring down to a minimum, they stay moister.
