Duncan Hines Butter recipe or yellow cake mix
1/2 cup oil
1 cup water
3 eggs

ICING
1 small package of vanilla instant pie filling ( pudding )
1 large can crushed pineapple, drained well.
1 can mandarin oranges, cut up and drained well.
1 cup crushed nuts
1 large container of Cool Whip
Mix by hand

Directions:

Mix together and place in 3 - 8" cake pans.
Bake according to the Duncan Hines cake mix directions. Cool completely before icing. Store in refrigerator.

Save out some whole segments of mandarin oranges to use as a garnish on top of the cake.

Even though the recipe calls for 1 can of mandarine oranges to be added into the cake mix, it has been my experience that the cake doesn't rise as well with the oranges in the cake mix so I only add them to the icing.
