2 Packets of yeast (if you use jarred yeast, 2+1/4 tsp. = 1 packet)
2 C. Milk, scalded + cooled to luke warm
5 Egg yolks or 3 yolks + 2 whites beaten
1 C. Sugar
1/2 C. Butter, melted
Orange zest (optional)
8 C. All purpose flour

Directions:
Dissolve yeast in milk, add 3 cups of flour, beat well. Set in a warm place over night. Then add eggs, sugar, butter, orange zest and enough flour to make a light dough.
Allow to rise in a warm place until double in size.
Turn-out onto a floured table, and kneed well, adding more flour if necessary. Form into loaves and place into greased loaf pans. Cover and allow to rise until double in size.
Bake at 350º for 50 minutes
Makes: 2 large loaves or 3 small loaves.

Mom would alway's make this bread for Thanksgiving, Christmas & Easter. When us kids would come home for the Holiday's, she would make 10 or more loaves, so each of us could take a loaf home with us. She put a lot of love and patience into making this bread.
Laurie is the only one that has tried it from scratch. I re-vamped a basic white bread recipe from my bread machine, Mom was mad at me because I had it done in about an hour, when it would take her all day. The down side...My bread machine could only make 1 loaf.
