1 lb chopped dates
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water

1 cup margarine
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp vanilla

4 cups four
1 tsp soda
1 tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Cook dates, 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup water until thick and dates are cooked through. May need to add a little more water. Cool.

Mix margarine, sugars, eggs and vanilla. Add flour soda and salt.

Divide dough in half and work more flour into dough until you can roll it out as for jelly roll. Spread with 1/2 of date mixture. Roll up as for jelly roll. Wrap in wax paper or put on cookie sheet & cover with plastic wrap. Chill overnight, then slice & bake at 350º until lightly browned.
