5 cups peeled sliced apples
3/4 cup white sugar (increase if using tart apples)
1/4 cup orange juice
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1 tablespoon butter
2 uncooked pie shells

Directions:
Directions:
Pour 1/4 cup orange juice in a large container with a snug fitting cover.
As you are peeling and slicing the apples, toss with the orange juice and gradually sprinkle with the 3/4 cup white sugar. Stir gently as you go. When finished,cover and let apples set in this mixture for 15 minutes or longer.
Place one uncooked pie crust in a deep-dish pie plate.
In saucepan, combine 1/4 cup brown sugar, 2 tbsp flour,1/4 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp salt, mix well. Drain juice mixture from apples and add to saucepan, stir mixture, then add 1 tbsp butter.
Cook this mixture on low heat until slightly thickened and bubbly, stirring often. Remove from heat.
Place apples in pie plate, drizzle sugar mixture over top.
Cut strips from remaining uncooked crust and place in crisscross fashion over apples to form a lattice pattern. Sprinkle top with sugar.
Bake at 350 º for 50 to 55 minutes or until crust is golden brown.

I submitted this recipe at special request--this is the first time it has ever been written. It is also the first time most of the ingredients have been measured!! It takes time to bake, but is my husband's favorite.
