2 cups vinegar; 1 tbsp salt; 3 medium onions, peeled and sliced; 8 cloves (whole); 3 bay leaves; 1 cup water; 1/4 tsp celery seeds; 12 ginger snap cookies; 1 tbsp sugar; 6 whole peppercorns; Beef Roast

Make marinade: Combine all ingredients except ginger snaps in large bowl and pour over the meat. Let stand for three (3) days in refrigerator with cover on. Turn meat once a day.
Remove meat from bowl and brown on all sides. Add all marinade ingredients and cook for about 2-1/2 to 3 hours or until meat is tender. When meat is cooked, add ginger snaps and cook about 10 minutes then thicken with flour and water. You can add a package of powered gravy if you like. Strain

This is my great, great Grandmothers recipe. Make this with Kartoffel Klosse (Potato Dumplings) as a side dish and of course red cabbage!
